Patterned on the internationally popular entrepreneurial nonprofit, Startup Weekend, which brings facilitators, judges and entrepreneurs together for an intense round of pitching and competition; 48 Innovate invited 35 people from across all functions of Cisco Commercial South to a boutique hotel in the eclectic mountain city of Asheville, NC.
The participants were armed with information. Our 48 Innovate team worked in advance with Cisco leadership to set challenges, goals, and disseminate real market data to participants.
Invitees were challenged to each come prepared with 60-second pitch to grow business by 20%.
Effective as a leadership tool and great way of fostering healthy interaction between individual participants and management.
No celebrity appearances or laser light shows; just smart people skipping the usual corporate dance, rolling up their sleeves and sharing their best ideas.
In return, Cisco Commercial South leadership committed to adopting the winning presentation as a part of their sales strategy. Group executives were just as involved in the process as individual participants, serving as coaches and final judges. As a result, the level of participation and buy-in was high across the board.
48 Innovate over delivered, generating not one, but two viable plans with specific and actionable business cases for 20% growth. Cisco Commercial South Leadership plans to implement them both.
Additionally, 15 other actionable ideas were generated in pitch rounds. Management plans to pursue many of these as additional projects throughout the coming year.
48 Innovate took away high marks from Cisco participants. Exit surveys generated an average rating of 4.93 out of a possible 5 with attendees describing their experiences as…awesome…well planned and executed without being micro-managed—bravo!
